Polo is the 'raison d'être' of Kurland, the 'hub' of polo in the Southern Cape. There are 13 polo fields in the Plettenberg Bay area, spread over 5 properties. All tournaments are co-ordinated by Clive Peddle, Kurland's Polo Director and CEO of the South African Polo Association.
The main grouping of fields is on the Kurland Estate, with 4 full sized fields and a Stick and Ball field, Wooden Horse and Equine Hospital. Adjacent, at Kurland Park, are 3 more fields. Tournaments are held annually, from December through to April over all the fields, which remain in good condition throughout the year.
Kurland Villa is the perfect base for guests coming to Kurland to play Polo, for patrons who are travelling with their families, or for an entire Polo team and families. On the 29 December every year, The Kurland International Polo Test Match is played on the main Polo field in front of Kurland's Pavilion. This match has become a popular and sophisticated event on the local calendar. Guests staying at the villa will have complimentary tickets for the event.
